What is an issue and how to create them?
Anything that is related to project and can be assigned are called issues.

JIRA can be used to track many different types of issues. Following are the list of issues but depending on your privileges you may or may not see all of them in your account

Bug — A problem which impairs or prevents the functions of the product.
Improvement — An enhancement to an existing feature.
New Feature — A new feature of the product.
Task — A task that needs to be done.
Custom Issue — A custom issue type, as defined by your organization if required.
Story— A feature that is a part of project..
Epic — A grouping of stories that can be interrelated in different projects.


How to create issue (bug  / task)

  1. Login to JIRA and Click Create Issue. Enter details and click Create button
    You can choose Issue type like Story, Bug, epic etc

Note: Depending on the project type fields and privileges in issue can be different.

To view which agile board does issue belongs:

1. Open issue/task and click More.

  1. Then click Agile Board to view the agile board it belongs

To log work:

  1. Open issue/task you have worked on and click More
  2. Click Log Work
  3. Enter time spent. (To enter 2 hour type 2h), date started, estimate, description etc

To attach files and screenshot

  1. Open issue/task you have worked on and click More
  2. Click Attach Files or Attach Screenshots and attach file or screenshots.

To Vote for the issue / task and see list of voters

  1. Open issue/task you have worked on and click More
  2. Click Voters and click Vote to vote yourself.

To watch issue or see list of user watchers

  1. Open issue/task you have worked on and click More
  2. Click Stop Watching to stop watching or click Watchers

To create subtask or to convert to subtask

  1. Open issue/task you have worked on and click More
  2. Click Create subtask to create subtask for that specific issue or task. That shows under as a sub-tasks in it’s window

To move

  1. Open issue/task you have worked on and click More
  2. Click Move and choose project where you want to move

To link with another issue

  1. Open issue/task you have worked on and click More
  2. Click Link and choose issue type and another issue id

To clone

  1. Open issue/task you have worked on and click More
  2. Click clone to make duplicate

To add label so it can be easier to group

  1. Open issue/task you have worked on and click More
  2. Click Labels
  3. Type label name. If that label is there then it shows up otherwise you can add new one.
